Hey. My name’s James, and I’m a twenty-something marketer from Melbourne, Australia. I graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2010 with a Bachelor of Commerce. My daily job is on a need-to-know basis.
Whilst completing my studies, I built and managed websites for some amazing small businesses. I was lucky enough to have them take me on as more than a web designer, and my work involved everything from advertising design to market research. I had the most fun when I developed campaigns myself from the ground up. Thanks to my clients for giving me the step-up I needed.
Of The Site
OfJamesDavies.net was born when all other combinations of my name turned out to be taken. Why ‘of’? It made for a pretty cool twitter handle and has potential for cool subdomains I haven’t created yet.
Of My Gear
I jumped on the Mac bandwagon in 2005 and haven’t looked back since. I started with a 12” iBook G4 and currently run an early 2008 15” MacBook Pro. A unibody beckons.
I bounce between Coda and Espresso for my client work. My ideal one-window development tool would have the power of Coda with the interface of Espresso. I organise with Things, bill with Billings, sketch with Skitch and surf with Safari. I’ve recently discovered the joyfully simple Instapaper and Simplenote, and now I couldn’t live without them. If you’re not using Simplenote at the least, you should be.
On the road I’m all iPhone (16GB 3GS). I wouldn’t recommend anything else, though I would recommend turning your email to manual to give yourself some personal space.
I recently added an iPad to my arsenal (32GB Wi-Fi + 3G) and love it probably a little too much. It goes with me when I want to stay in touch but don’t want to dominate my lifestyle with computing.
